Walk into the future This Digital Life By Gary Maller Reprinted from The Range News When asked by the Conscription Sergeant why he preferred to serve in the Armored Division in WW2, Peter Ustinov replied: "If I have to go into battle, I prefer to do it sitting down." Funny at the time, the remark remains true for us mostly sedentary types today. But as I discovered recently when my sacroiliac almost expired, sitting down all day is not what it's cracked up to be. In my case I was lucky enough to come under the skilled care of Dr Stephen Lowe at Maple Chiropractic, whose healing hands realigned my spine from a 45 degree tilt portside back towards the vertical. And it's a wonderful feeing being able to tie my shoes again. What I learned from the experience was even more valuable. Firstly, that an untreated physical injury in childhood can cause new grief as our body ages. So see your chiropractor for a check up. Secondly, that taking regular breaks from your computer, say every forty five minutes, and walking about is essential for spinal health. In my case the untreated trauma was partly the result of being hit in the head by a swing when a toddler. I had forgotten all about it until the damaged vertebrae in my neck were revealed by X-Ray in Dr Lowe's rooms 45 years later. Allowing your computer to perform more tasks for you is a good way to keep mobile. The more you automate business processes such as marketing, sales, and customer support, the more time you have to enjoy life. As pointed out by Dr Lowe in his recent TRN column - regular exercise is necessary. Our Hunter Gatherer ancestors Dr Lowe reckons walked about 15k every day. So it's about time we digital warriors of the future caught up with the past. For more information about how e-business can improve your way of life contact |
